A day of breast cancer combating

A month of combating breast cancer was marked in Loznica for the third time  on Monday, October 27 by appropriate event  outside the Culture Centre "Vuk Karadzic", organized by the Prevention Cenre, Public Health Nursing Department with Loznica Medical Centre, Association for Cancer Combating " Pro Life"- Loznica.  The event was organized for the first time in 1985 in the form of week dedicated to raising awareness about this malicious and spreading disease.
            Doctors advise that women should start regular monthly self checking of breasts, from the age of twenty. A complete medical checkup requires only couple of seconds.
            Irrespective of the age the women should address the doctor if  any kind of following changes on breast are noticed: knot or sking bump, swelling, red areas or change of colour, change in breast size of shape, skin itching,  nipples skin peeling, nipple  indention  or new, persistent pain in specific part of the breast. The outcome depends on the disease stage in the moment of diagnosing and start of medical treatment. Over the course of the past 6 months in Loznica municipality 204 persons developed some form of cancer, 24 have breast cancer. The disease did not spare the men. According to Nada Djuric, M.D., from Prevention Centre there are two men in Loznica municipality currently undergoing medical treatment for breast cancer.
           Recent researches indicate that the number of people affected by breast cancer could be reduced for one third if people could change their dietary habits, engage in physical activities on regular basis and take care about their weight.
